Qi Gong with Lee Holden

I recently took up the practice of Qi Gong after not doing it for some time.  I really enjoy this Qi Gong practice with Qi Gong Master Lee Holden as it creates more energy in my body during the day and releases stress and tension in the evening which helps me prepare to sleep.  If you’ve ever thought of taking up Tai Chi, Yoga or Qi Gong then you may want to try this Qi Gong practice with Lee Holden or go back to the archive and look at the other videos I’ve posted in the past.

Qi Gong (phonetically pronounced Chee Gong) literally means Life Energy Cultivation. It is a practice of aligning breath, movement and awareness for exercise, healing and mediation. In traditional Chinese medicine the meridian system is an energetic pathway through which the Qi flows and by practicing Qi Gong you can balance Qi throughout your body.

The gentle, rhythmic movements of Qi Gong reduce stress, build stamina, increase vitality and enhance the immune system. It has been found to improve cardiovascular, respiratory, circulatory, lymphatic and digestive functions.

Lee created a 10 minute morning and evening practice, as well as, a 20 minute practice.  When I started my practice after a long absence I decided the best route was to do the 10 minute videos for two weeks and then switch to the 20 minute videos.  It worked well for me but you can decide how and what to do based on your needs and how fit you feel you are.

There are other videos on Youtube by Lee Holden, as well as, other Qi Gong Masters.  Please feel free to go to you tube and type in Qi Gong Master Lee Holden or Qi Gong for ___________ (specific topic like back pain, weight loss, etc.) or you can try Chi Gong as I’ve seen it spelled that way too.  Remember to look up Qi Gong, Tai Chi and Yoga here on this blog as well because I have posted on these topics before.

Until next time….take care of yourself.

Stress Part 4

Tai Chi (phonetically pronounced Tie Chee) is a graceful, focused form of exercise which is accompanied by deep breathing. Each posture flows into the next ensuring that the body is in constant motion. There are many styles of Tai Chi. Some forms of Tai Chi focus on health and maintenance and others focus on martial arts.

I have practiced two different types of Tai Chi. Both were classes that I took through Community Education in my city. I really enjoyed Tai Chi and I loved the benefits that I received from it. However, once the classes had concluded I found that I had a hard time practicing Tai Chi on my own because my tendency was to speed up the movements. Can you imagine someone with ADHD wanting things to move faster? Me either.

Here are a some of the Tai Chi resources that I found:

Yoga uses various body poses to create balance in the body by increasing both strength and flexibility. Each pose done in Yoga has it’s own benefits and the poses are done either in rapid succession to create heat in the body or at a slow steady pace to create perfect alignment. Yoga includes breath control, simple meditation and body postures with the ultimate goal being health, relaxation and a permanent state of peace.

I have tried Yoga a number of different times but I do not find I really enjoy it. Why? I have ADHD which makes doing things that require long, slow poses not optimal and I am not a very flexible person which means that the poses are not always easy for me. Should this keep you from trying Yoga? Of course not! You are you and I am me and we are not the same. Try everything until you find what you like and what works for you.
