DMSO

was sent a video by someone selling an analgesic product that contained something called DMSO.  If you’re like me, you’ve never heard of it.  Curiosity generally gets me to at least take a look at something before I decide if there’s anything to it or not.  What fascinated me is that the video was of a Mike Wallace interview on 60 Minutes from the 1980’s.  It showed that DMSO works wonders for people with pain.  You can watch  the video here:

Prior to receiving this video I’d been in extreme amounts of pain for about 5 months.  Why?  My best guess is an inflammatory reaction set off by a medication that I apparently don’t tolerate well.  After a round of Prednisone I felt better but still hadn’t fully recovered.  My first thought after watching the video was “Can I find this stuff?”  So I jumped on Amazon and found it right away.  Prices vary quite a bit but I found one bottle for $12.70.  Two days later I had it in my hand and I started using it.  Out of the last three weeks that I’ve been using DMSO I’ve had two or three bad pain days….mostly because I overdid what my muscles were able to tolerate after being unable to do much of anything for almost five months straight.

Please note that there are different strengths of pharmaceutical grade DMSO.  The one I originally purchased was a 99.95% solution but you can also get 70% so make sure you look at that.  Also, pay attention to the pricing.  When I first ordered this I didn’t want to get too much until I knew if it would work for me or not.  So at that time the smaller bottle for $12.70 was fine.  Today I ordered 3-16 oz. bottles at the higher strength for about $22 which should last up to a year or so.  Just some things to keep in mind when you look at DMSO.

At first I used DMSO by itself and found it helped immensely.  Then I realized that the video I’d been sent had was using DMSO in combination with an analegesic.  So me, being me, I decided to add it to Max Freeze and see what I thought.  I’ve been using it with Max Freeze ever since.  One of these days I’ll have to try it with Icy Hot Balm my other go to analgesic.   So if you decide to try using DMSO you may want to consider using it by itself and/or with an analgesic.

Please note DMSO is still not approved for pain relief in this country.  Why that is, I’m still unclear about.  What I do know is that the side effects as outlined in this video and on websites I looked at did not concern me.   If you decide to try it please test it to make sure that you don’t have an allergic reaction to it.  Also, do not rub it in.  Just place it on your skin and let it be absorbed.  Like everything I recommend or talk about on this blog I am only speaking from my own experience and do not want you to do anything that would be harmful to you.  Please check with your Doctor if you have any questions or concerns about it.  Whether you decide to try it or not is completely up to you.

Until next time….take care of yourself.
